VSE Basic Steering

THE SYSTEM

This steering system is a series product, specially designed for trailers with one steered axle, without additional options. To make it as simple as possible, just one type of system locker is used.

This system makes it possible to steer around extreme turns in the simplest possible way. VSE Basic Steering is a steering system with an electrically driven pump. This E(electric) pump is powered by the truck’s batteries.

TECHNICAL POSSIBILITIES

• With electric pump on the trailer
• Just one version of VSE Basic Steering, with a configuration including up to three axles and one steered axle possible
• Comes with a standard stainless steel system locker. In addition, a steering cylinder and angle sensor are supplied for each steered axle, plus a kingpin and various cables
• VSE Steering can achieve a steering angle up to 45 degrees
• The system can be supplied with an air suspension axle
• The system weighs 160 kg
• Customised software
• Can be used with any brand of axle and an axle load of up to 10 tonnes

ENERGY SUPPLY

The electrically driven pump is powered by the truck’s batteries. Important condition: The truck must be equipped with an alternator with a continuously available surplus capacity of at least 16 A (intercity deployment).

The truck’s batteries and the VSE system locker must be connected with a power cable, possibly in combination with a spiral cable.

INSTALLATION

• Installation of the special kingpin with sensor. This is just as simple as installing one without a sensor
• Mounting the ready-to-use stainless steel system locker, supplied by VSE
• Installation of an Ackermann-steered axle with a VSE steering cylinder
• Making the electrical and hydraulic connections between the system locker, kingpin and the axle
• Calibration of the VSE system via the intuitive VSE diagnostic program. No bleeding required!

SAFETY

The steering is gradually reduced above 25 km/h, axles are rigid above 55 km/h. This ensures optimum stability!

The system is self-correcting, so hitting an obstacle such as a kerb will not cause tracking misalignment. This is not possible with mechanical and hydraulic systems.

When VSE Steering is switched off, the wheels will always be locked in the straight-ahead position. In the case of mechanical or hydraulic systems, when problems occur it is often no longer possible to drive.
