VSE Special Steering

VSE Special Steering

VSE Special Steering is an electrohydraulic steering system that uses a pump driven by the truck’s engine. This pump can also be used for other systems at standstill, such as a truck-mounted crane of tipping cylinder. The system is particularly well suited for applications where the trailer is always used with the same truck.

THE SYSTEM

THE SYSTEM

VSE Special Steering is ideal for trailers which in addition to the steering system also have other hydraulic systems on board. The pump driven by the truck’s engine provides hydraulic power for all the systems.

The big advantage of this system is the keen price and light weight of the system locker, because there is no electric pump or batteries on the trailer.

TECHNICAL POSSIBILITIES

TECHNICAL POSSIBILITIES

  • Only possible in combination with the engine-driven pump
  • Various versions available, for up to three Ackermann-steered axles
  • Comes with a standard stainless steel system locker. In addition, a steering cylinder and angle sensor are supplied for each steered axle, plus a kingpin and various cables. Customisation is possible
  • VSE Steering can achieve a steering angle up to 45 degrees
  • The system can be supplied with an axle included
  • The system weighs between 80 and 190 kg
  • Customised software
  • Can be used with any brand of axle and an axle load of up to 10 tonnes

ENERGY SUPPLY

ENERGY SUPPLY

VSE Special Steering includes a P/Speed cable to supply power. A hydraulic connection must also be made between the engine-driven pump on the truck and the system locker for the steering system.

The truck’s engine-driven pump must be able to deliver 210 bar. The minimum flow at idle speed is around 9 l/min, and the maximum flow that can be set depends on the vehicle’s configuration.

INSTALLATION

INSTALLATION

  • Installation of the special kingpin with sensor. This is just as simple as installing one without a sensor
  • Mounting the ready-to-use stainless steel system locker, supplied by VSE
  • Installation of one or more Ackermann-steered axles with a VSE steering cylinder
  • Making the electrical and hydraulic connections between the system locker, kingpin and axles
  • Calibration of the VSE system via the intuitive VSE diagnostic program. No bleeding required!

SAFETY

SAFETY

The steering is gradually reduced above 25 km/h, axles are rigid above 55 km/h. This ensures optimum stability!

The system is self-correcting, so hitting an obstacle such as a kerb will not cause tracking misalignment. This is not possible with mechanical and hydraulic systems.

When VSE Steering is switched off, the wheels will always be locked in the straight-ahead position. In the case of mechanical or hydraulic systems, when problems occur it is often no longer possible to drive.
