Hemscheidt VSE
Almost a century of experience in chassis and suspension technology
Hemscheidt started in 1929 as Maschinenfabrik Hemscheidt in Wuppertal. At an early stage, the focus shifted to shock absorbers and later to hydraulic and hydropneumatic chassis solutions. That development still forms the technical foundation of the company today.
- 1929 — Hemscheidt founded in Wuppertal, Germany.
- 1932 — Start of the development and production of shock absorbers.
- 1988 — Introduction of the first hydropneumatic suspension for a heavy-duty 8×8 vehicle.
- 1991 — Start of serial production of hydraulically damped articulation joints for articulated buses.
- 1992 — Presentation of the first HEPLEX® suspension with dynamic damping.
- 1993 — Establishment of Hemscheidt Fahrwerktechnik as an independent business unit.
- 1995 — Start of serial production of the HEPLEX® hydropneumatic suspension and damping system.
- 2007 — Hemscheidt becomes part of the HÜBNER Group.
- 2014 — Introduction of an innovative air suspension for trailer axles.
- 2016 — Expansion of activities with Hemscheidt Engineering.
- 2021 — Strengthening of chassis and steering technology within the HÜBNER Group through the integration of VSE.
- 2026 — Five years of collaboration between Hemscheidt and VSE form the basis for further joint development.

From vehicle engineering to electro-hydraulic steering
Hemscheidt VSE
From vehicle engineering to electro-hydraulic steering
VSE originated in the development of heavy-duty and special vehicles, applications for which standard solutions are often insufficient. From that background, VSE developed into a specialist in electro-hydraulic steering systems, with applications in trucks, trailers, buses and special vehicles worldwide.
- 1985 — Started as an engineering department within GINAF Trucks; development of the first hydraulic suspension system.
- 1991 — Introduction of the first electro-hydraulic steering system.
- 2001 — Management buy-out from GINAF Trucks: VSE becomes an independent company.
- 2004 — Development of the first electro-hydraulic steering system for trailers.
- 2006 — Winner of the Trailer Innovation Award at the IAA trade fair.
- 2009 — Relocation to the current premises on De Ravelijn in Veenendaal.
- 2014 — VSE becomes part of the WEBER-HYDRAULIK Group.
- 2019 — Launch of VSE Smart Steering: an assisted steering system that actively steers a trailer self-steering axle both when driving forwards and reversing.
- 2021 — VSE becomes part of the HÜBNER Group and starts working together with Hemscheidt.
- 2026 — Renewed shared visual identity of Hemscheidt and VSE; further integration of knowledge and technology within the HÜBNER Group.
Hemscheidt VSE
One technical vision, two specialisations
Hemscheidt and VSE share the same technical vision: to integrate steering, suspension, hydraulic and electronic systems so that they function as one whole. Steering, suspension, damping, hydraulic and electronic functions are carefully aligned with one another.
Hemscheidt brings in-depth expertise in chassis, suspension, damping and hydropneumatic technology. VSE contributes knowledge of electro-hydraulic steering, software and vehicle systems. Together, we offer vehicle manufacturers and OEMs a single point of contact for the complete dynamic system of the vehicle.
The renewed visual identity of 2026 makes that collaboration visible. Two companies with their own history are working ever more closely together on integrated steering, suspension and vehicle systems.
